Vinyasa yoga
The most popular yoga in the world, Vinyasa is a free style inspired by traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa. The practice consists of a fluid sequence of postures, synchronized with the breath.
Practiced regularly, vinyasa yoga develops strength, flexibility and tone.
Definition of vinyasa yoga
Unlike Ashtanga yoga, vinyasa (or vinyasa flow) is a free style where the postures are chained according to the creativity of the teacher. The flow can have a specific goal (working the whole body, strengthening a part, flexibility, strength etc.) or simply following a certain choreography.
In vinyasa the breath plays an important role (in all yogas in general) where it is always synchronized to the movements.
The asanas (postures) are held normally for five breaths. This creates an interesting dynamic that allows you to enter a meditative state of “flow”.
Benefits of
yoga vinyasa
Vinyasa yoga is a powerful practice, easy to insert into your daily life. 15 minutes a day (but ideally 30 min to 1 hour) brings you considerable health benefits. Practiced correctly, the vinyasa flow strengthens body and mind and prevents you from injury (unlike aggressive sports such as fitness, running, tennis, etc.).
In addition, the dynamics of this class provide you with important cardiovascular work. It is also common to sweat and therefore eliminate more toxins than in a traditional hatha yoga class. In summary, the benefits of vinyasa yoga are numerous, here is a non-exhaustive list:
- feeling of general well-being;
- more flexibility, whatever your age;
- greatly increases your energy level;
- enhances concentration and mental clarity;
- physical and mental strength;
- improved sleep;
- more inner calm;
- sharper intellect; increased creativity;
- deeper and regenerating breathing;
- expanding your state of consciousness.
Of course, all these benefits do not appear at the same time and on the first try! Regular practice is necessary, likewise, you have to know how to progress at your own pace and gently. Yoga in general is part of a healthy lifestyle and is not a sport.
During the practice, the postures are maintained for five deep breaths and chained one after the other.
Yoga Vinyasa Exercices
Vinyasa classes are generally accessible to everyone. The use of blocks allows you to practice most postures, whatever your flexibility. Many variations are also possible. The difficulty lies mainly in the dynamics of the course, students with bad cardio can sometimes get out of breath during their first lesson. But in general, 3-4 sessions are enough to match the rhythm of the breath.
Unlike a hatha yoga class, the vinyasa flow gives access to many postures, facilitating the improvement of flexibility. In addition, the meditative side of yoga remains present and interesting: guided by deep breathing, meditation is continuous, identical to a “meditative walk”. An ideal Yoga for a body and mind practice!
For whom ?
Vinyasa yoga represents 80% of yoga classes worldwide. It’s the best known style, precisely because it’s the most accessible, for the Western mind anyway! From students to seniors, vinyasa touches all age groups interested in a gentle but dynamic practice. Nevertheless, studies show that this yoga is even more useful for people:
- prone to fears and anxiety attacks, anxious, depressed;
- stressed, tired, burnt out, lacking energy;
- needing to improve their flexibility; wanting aerobic and physically challenging yoga;
- wishing to access more well-being and inner harmony;
- too sedentary and in need of physical activity;
- prone to back pain and positioning pain.
Of course, this practice can also be difficult at first for people who are overweight or have health problems. But its softness and fluidity make it an ideal tool for achieving well-being. Knowing that speed is not imperative and everyone can adjust to their own pace and do what they can only. Yoga has no performance or other objectives, it is a restorative discipline by definition (when well applied).
